I believe “good teaching” starts with confidence in the particular subject one is aiming to teach another individual. The most obvious sign to a student that a teacher, professor, tutor is knowledgeable and credible in a certain subject is the amount of confidence displayed by that individual. The most effective way for me personally to learn is through active learning. I am not a big fan of teachers reading off slides I enjoy being taught through conversations, demonstrations and various activities throughout the lesson. I have learned through my years as a student being taught this way has kept me more engaged and interested in the topics being taught. Another great quality in “good teaching” I feel is the amount of passion an instructor displays toward the subject or topic being taught as well as their passion for their student’s success. When an instructor’s main priority is focused on their students understanding and accurate completion of what is being taught I believe students success rate can overall characterized as being very high.

Not only do i feel that a teacher/tutor should be confident I also believe they should be able to adpat to learning about multiple disciplines and accpeting students from a wide range of discourses. Both of these things I'm sure can be difficult to master but keeping an open mind I believe is key. As a teacher/tutor it is especially important to realize that not every student is the same, they are all from different discourses and disciplines and it can affect their ability to learn, read, write, and perform.

I also feel a good teacher or tutor should always be motivational both through their teaching and tutoring practices and commenting on written papers. Along with motivation I think the best teachers and tutors are those who take the time to get to know their students.
