I agree with the section in chapter 1 where it explains how using “common sense” to get students back to the basics by teaching little grammar points isn’t effective. I believe it isn’t effective because as much as you can recognize certain rules in the English language in one sentence on a sheet of paper it is different in large papers and every day writing. I also really like how the author puts out a disclaimer in the Recognizing the Problems with Tradition-Bound Approaches section saying that although he believes in his text that this is the best way to tutor it can be proven wrong and he is accepting of that fact. Between all the research methods I like the sound of the lore method. Although, I have never heard of this method after reading a short stint about it I can see how effective it can really be especially when tutoring. As a professional writing major and the occupations I am currently looking into I believe one of the most important characteristics of anyone’s work is its ethical and reliable value. I want anyone reading my work to be able to trust me as being credible on the said topic as well as be able to see the ethics behind my work.
